Kallee Mills Takes Over Reins of 'Golden Kong' Camaro for 2022 No Prep Kings Season|

In contempo years, no-prep drag racing has become a massively popular form of motorsports with an incredibly devoted fanbase. What started out equally a pocket-size underground subculture that gave street racers a safer style to race without the threat of constabulary has become equally popular as the most mainstreams forms of the sport. One of, if not, the biggest reason for this is the television prove Street Outlaws No Prep Kings.

No Prep Kings (NPK) gave eager fans their offset glimpse into this exciting, and oft times dangerous world, and quickly took it to a level no one could take imagined when the trend started. As NPK gears up for its fourth season, many of the tiptop teams accept announced new cars, massive updates to electric current cars, and even driver changes.

1 such scenario comes out of the Mills Racing camp. Last season, the no-prep world was put on notice when Dewayne Mills announced he was assembling a third team-car that would be defended to this growing form of the sport. "Golden Kong" was added to Mills Racing's stable of golden starting time-generation Camaros, and Mills chop-chop found massive success as the driver.

The 2022 season will run across Dewayne step away from driving duties, and his daughter Kallee will assume these responsibilities. Kallee Mills has made a proper name for herself in the "Gilt Panda," the squad'due south X275 car. While driving a competitive minor-tire motorcar is a great fashion to gain experience, the move from pocket-size radials to massive, super-soft slicks can be a challenging one. Only this wasn't how the Mills military camp initially planned on things working out.

"Last year nosotros were discussing what to do with the program," Kallee starts. "We discussed if we were going to continue to compete in Radial vs. the World. I wanted to movement upward and get faster, and I had been talking about driving Kong. We really have the [Golden] Gorilla cut apart right now and information technology's being congenital to where nosotros tin can put big tires or pocket-size tires on it. That was going to be my car and I was going to run it."

Unfortunately, as 2022 was coming to a close, the Mills family was handed some news that would modify everything.

"[Dewayne] got diagnosed with prostate cancer two weeks before the PRI Show," Kallee tells us. "He's going to get that taken out Jan 27th. So, either he was going to have to go out of [the machine] for about six to eight months, or I was going to take to take over."

With the decision made that Kallee would drive Kong, the team speedily made changes to the car then she could comfortably and safely get behind the wheel, and they fabricated the trip from Oklahoma to Florida for testing.

"I just got in Kong and we tested for the concluding couple of days," Kallee explains. "Nosotros did pretty good. We were just planning on going about 200 feet, but things were going well, and so I ran information technology past 330. I knew it was going to exist different. The Ten automobile yous leave, and by 330 feet, you're kind of just cruising. In the no-prep motorcar, you let off the push and it leans you back and you have to drive it. Climbing behind the wheel of 1 of the most competitive no-prep cars can certainly exist intimidating. Kallee opens upwardly nearly nerves and the expectations put on her.

"I was extremely nervous because the auto is a proven car," Mills says. "It's i of the fastest no-prep cars in the nation and I was nervous because I had big shoes to fill. I experience like people were thinking this isn't the Ten auto, and information technology'southward hard to drive. I was nervous because of all of the expectation my dad and everyone else put on me. Just I think that now that I've gotten behind the wheel of the car and I felt how it feels and I ran it further than what he expected, it'south a good match. I think that it'll just accept more seat time and getting comfortable in the machine. I call back me in the auto is going to be a forcefulness to reckoned with."
